Burr Box

Symetry is great but sometimes it is nice to just go off kilter a bit. This oak burr box is one such case. Practical, made from a beautiful piece of burr and definitely quirky. It was originally cut from a larger piece and the cut was off centre. On turning the box out I liked the idea of having something that didn't conform to the 'rule' and so simply cleaned up, sanded and polished the sides as it was. It is 3 1/2"(90mm) x 4" (120mm) square and 5" (128mm) tall including the finial which ais a small piece of japanned oak. Main body is oak burr with all inclusions and natural orifices left alone.
